However, both these changes occurring can give your body a hard time coping up with the need of insulin. Your pancreas in this case fails to produce enough insulin therefore blood sugar levels start to rise up and this eventually causes gestational diabetes.

So what can be done to take care of diabetes during pregnancy? Here are some necessary steps to take.
Meals would be the first to alter. The amount of sweets you eat needs to be cut down. You will now consume 3 meals in smaller amounts and up to 3 snacks every day. The timing of all your meals need to be maintained plus there should be good amounts of fiber in the food as well; focus on eating more whole grains, vegetables, and fruits.

The second focus will be on the physical activities. If you simply start swimming and walking regularly, this maintain your blood sugar levels if you have gestational diabetes already. It will work even if you do not get insulin. However, many females who have type 1 or gestational diabetes do require insulin in order to maintain their blood glucose. Remember that getting insulin will do no harm to the baby but controlling blood glucose will surely be beneficial at this stage.

You need to keep a check on your blood glucose level. Get a glucose monitor and learn how to use it. You need to check when you get up in the morning; it should not be more than 95. Also, before you eat your meals and a couple of hours after you are done eating; should be around 120 after two hours. Ketone is not healthy for the baby so make sure it is not present in your morning urine.

The good news is that most of the females get rid of gestational diabetes after giving birth. Breast feeding makes sure that your body also stays away from this disease.
